I had no idea where Anacortes was before this wedding. Apparently it is in Puget Sound area above Whidbey Island. I took couple days before and after to visit Orcas Island and Deception Pass, and would love to visit again!
Victoria and Alex’s wedding was at her parent’s house, at the beach. What a beautiful setting, I am sure you will agree! It was a very intimate wedding, with great people, and a great setting. I also loved the fireworks they had. I love fireworks at weddings!

Seattle Photo Challenge
June 1st, 2007
Seattle Photo Challenge was an idea brought to life by Mat Hayward (and Cory
Paris). The idea is simple - pick a place, use a 80mm equivalent lens, and in
1-1.5 hours and see what you come up with - no constraints on subjects. So we
got together at the Pike Place market and shot away. Frankly I do not shoot with
80mm equivalent for photojournalism much so it was definitely a challenge for
me. Once done we submitted 5 of our favorites (posted below) and other
photographers vote. In the end, I placed 3 out of my 5 at the final selection
and got 2nd place. But more importantly, it allowed me to shoot for myself. I
haven’t been doing personal projects as much as I like to, so this was a great
way to kick me in the butt for that. Thanks Mat! It was lots of fun. I will be
posting more personal projects here. I think it is important for photographers
to push their boundaries and get out of our comfort area.

Stephanie and Jared at Ixtapa
April 27th, 2007
I met Stephanie and Jared at Joella and Drew’s wedding - we hit it off and they
hired me to do their wedding at Ixtapa. It worked out great since I had a
wedding a week after theirs in Mexico so I just stayed.
The wedding party is mostly skydivers so Jared and his groomsmen skydived to the
wedding. One of them almost took me out actually while landing. It probably
looked closer through the lens than it really was. Regardless, we had tons of
fun, and there was even a fiesta after the wedding at the hotel square, and we
stayed up until late with the wedding party.
The next day we did some day-after photos, even rented jet ski’s which was
supposed to be the most dangerous part but it worked out well. However while
shooting in knee deep water, I got attacked by a sneaky wave - there goes my
camera and lens! You can see the photo of it couple posts down.

Christine Bridal Portraits at Mexico

The day before Christine’s wedding, we did a session of bridal portraits. Bridal
portraits are not very common in Pacific NW but more so in East coast, so I was
excited for the opportunity. Christine is also a photographer, so that made it
even more fun!

Big Honors! Runner-up in 2006 PJ Photographer of the Year
April 12th, 2007
I will post more about this later (I am currently out of town with a non-English
keyboard!), but WPJA just announced their Photographer of the Year results and I
was the runner up. The first place went to a fantastic Italian photographer, so
I guess this makes me first place in USA? LOL. I lost by a hair too, so I guess
I should enter all four competitions, not just three. Who cares actually, I
don’t mind being dead last as long as my clients love their photos. Still, it is
huge honors considering WPJA is a selective organization and the best
photographers in the world are the members. Some of them are Pulitzer award
winners actually, so to be named among that select group makes me really proud!

I almost lost my website
April 12th, 2007
Due to intense travel schedule, before I left town, I forgot to renew my domain.
Yup. So one morning last week, I open my website and there was a search engine
in it’s place. I had to sit down for couple minutes and felt like all of my
energy was sucked down. Luckily, my hosting provider gives 30 day grace period
so I was able to claim it back (and for the maximum length I could), but some of
my emails are lost and I was out of touch with the world for 3 long days.
So if you emailed me and have not heard back, that is probably why.

WPJA - I Won 4 First Place and Couple More!

WPJA - Wedding Photojournalist Association is the most popular organization for
photojournalistic wedding photographers. The members are the best in the world
in photojournalistic style of shooting. Each year they do 4 contests. There are
thousands of images entered into each category by the world’s top photographers.
So I am very excited and proud to announce that I was awarded first place in 4
categories. In addition, I received one more top ten and two top twenty awards.
I think nobody has ever placed more than 2 first place winners in the same
contest. What a great way to finish of my day after an awesome wedding shoot. I
will post the winning images and more later since my internet connection is
pretty limited here.

Whatever it takes to get the shot!

I just shot an awesome wedding in Ixtapa! We almost did a skydive with the groom
to the ceremony but decided against it due to logistic issues. I was shooting
some photos of them on jetski and then did some more at the beach. Check this

Alexis and Chris - A Great Gatsby Wedding!

Here is a very cool wedding I have done over the New Year’s eve and wanted to
share. The theme of Chris and Alexis wedding was Great Gatsby. It was at the
First Congregational Church for ceremony, and then we moved to the Art Museum to
Fields Ballroom. The processional was escorted by guests with sparklers walking
to the Art Museum.
The event coordinators Blush Consulting did a fantastic job and there were
gambling tables, a live period gypsy jazz/swing band (Stolen Sweets), and even
swing/charleston dance instructors. The drinks were cooled in an old claw foot
tub. Portland has quite a few great event planners/coordinators and I am lucky
to work with quite a few of them!
We also did a unique set up this wedding and had a portrait booth set up. The
bride and groom provided the props and a second photographer took photos of all
the guests in their cool flapper/zoot suit outfits with this decor. You can see
a funny one of such a set up shot below.
So I rang the new year’s at the Art Museum. Towards the end, guests were served
with chocolate cups with Bailey’s and also mini burgers and fries in martini
glasses. Nice!

Sarah and Jonathan at World Forestry Center

I know Sarah and Jonathan from swing dancing, and I was very honored when they
picked me as their wedding photographer. We got some great shots at the World
Forestry Center Miller Hall - a unique area with very high ceilings. There was a
lot of swing dancing as well!

Couple New Features!

Just wanted to share that www.WedPix.com has an articlea featuring some of my
comments and also learned that Portland Bride and Groom is featuring one of my
weddings in the new issue.
I frankly do not do a good job promoting myself with magazines and stuff. I am
pretty busy so I never get around to it. New Year’s Resolution: I should do
more. I got a lot of awards and what not and never even sent a press release.

Maria and Hai at Wong’s King Restaurant

Allie and Corey at Portland Art Museum

I love shooting at Art Museum esp. when it is decorated by such talented people.
Allie is a coordinator and her crew decorated the wedding amazingly! Allie and
Corey were also so laid back so it made life pretty easy. We also had some
amazing moon so outdoors shots were awesome as well.
Almost forgot - there was a very talented break dancer in the crowd and it was
so fun to photograph him - you can see him parallel to earth in one of the
photos.

Melissa and AJ at Hawks View Vineyard and Portland Art Museum

Melissa and AJ got married at the Hawks View Vineyard to a private small
ceremony. It is a very beautiful place and the wine is amazing. Check out their
website. The rest of the wedding was at the Art Museum. It was all a very fun
and classy wedding! The band, Too Much, was awesome too. I always love shooting
at the museum, they do a fantastic job there and is a great match to my style.

Garden Vineyards - Jennifer and Robert

Garden Vineyards is one of the most beautiful vineyards! Jennifer and Robert had
a great wedding, Jennifer made some drapes (you can see in one of the photos)
and they really added to the ambiance. It was hot, and even the cat had to sneak

Deb and Nina Portrait Session

I met Deb at a wedding I was shooting and she retained me to shoot some
portraits of her daughter.
Portrait side of my business is really busy right now. I really enjoy working
with families and children, and most of my clients find me through the weddings
I shoot and word of mouth. I will be releasing my new portrait website soon, so

Kathleen and Oden’s wedding was at a very beautiful day at McMenamins Edgefield
Amphitheater. I have never shot at this particular Edgefield area before so I
was excited. The wedding itself was very sweet with Oden’s sister performing a
reading and his cousin’s band played a song for them.

Joella and Drew

Lyndsee and Geoffrey at Acadian Ballroom

I was very excited to shoot this wedding because I was going to work with two
vendors I was looking forward to working with. The event was at Acadian
Ballroom, a beautiful place and the event coordination was in the able hands of
Soiree. The ceremony was at the First Presbyterian Church.
I knew Lyndsee and Geoffrey from my soccer team couple years ago. I don’t get to
play soccer much anymore since I can’t afford to get injured in the middle of
busy season but I think I am going to go back in October or so. Anyway, the
wedding was very classy, the decorations and other details were amazing and we

Baby and Family Portraits
