Melissa and Surya’s Leftbank Annex Wedding with a Marching Band!
This unique and fun-filled Leftbank Annex wedding in Portland, Oregon, was truly memorable! Even after photographing hundreds of weddings, Melissa and Surya’s celebration offered a delightful array of surprises.
The highlight? Their friends secretly hired the internationally acclaimed MarchFourth marching band to burst in during the reception! Imagine the couple’s reaction as this vibrant 20-piece ensemble, complete with musicians, dancers, and artisans, filled the Leftbank Annex with energy. The surprise was especially fitting as their wedding date was March 4th, MarchFourth is their favorite band, and well, it’s Portland! Jennifer Reyes of AWE Celebrations flawlessly coordinated this incredible moment, keeping the couple completely in the dark – their expressions were priceless!
Pre-Ceremony Wedding Pary Portraits at Peninsual Park
Despite a typical Portland rainy day, we captured some beautiful pre-ceremony portraits at Peninsula Park, showcasing the fountain and architectural details. Melissa looked stunning in her unique dress, which even had pockets – a photographer’s dream for creative posing!
Adding another layer of personal touch, Surya, a sound and visual expert with a tech background, created a custom neural network image filter for their photo booth, reminiscent of Prisma filter. Guests enjoyed creating unique and artistic snapshots. The Leftbank Annex was also transformed into an interactive playground with juggling stations, personalized Rubik’s Cubes, a drawing table, and a small temple for loved ones. The couple even had their own logo and temporary tattoos, adding a cohesive and playful element throughout the celebration. A creative projection behind the ceremony and dance floor displayed stylized outlines of the dancing guests.
Fun Details! A Barber Shop!
Beyond the big surprises, the day was filled with charming details: Surya’s pre-wedding visit to the Cloak & Dagger Barber Shop with his father and an officiant (a serendipitous meeting with his brother!), Surya’s mother’s dance performance, Melissa’s father’s stylish cigar, a secret pre-ceremony cake moment, and matching light-up shoes. Being a fan of Hoda’s Restaurant, Melissa, who is of Armenian descent, had them cater delicious dishes, including popular pastirma platters. The evening concluded with a delightful ice cream encore from Ruby Jewel.

Working alongside an exceptional team of Portland vendors made the day even more seamless. Jennifer Reyes of AWE Productions ensured everything ran perfectly. The stunning floral arrangements by Josef from Botanica Floral Design were a true highlight. Terrarium rentals were provided by Something Borrowed, rentals by Barclay Event Rentals, signage by Letters & Dust, bartending by My Bartender, and fantastic lighting by Green Light Creative.
